LV Switchboard Repairs & Troubleshooting

Repair works are carried out based on proper inspection and testing.

Typical repair scope includes:

  1. 1. Design and calculate sizing of capacitor banks and replacement
  2. 2. Fault diagnosis and rectification of switchboard components
  3. 3. Replacement of faulty ACB / MCCB / MCB / contactors
  4. 4. Service, mechanism check and trip testing of Air Circuit Breakers
  5. 5. Repair of protection relay faults
  6. 6. Checking the integrity of cables and connections within the switchboard
  7. 7. Correction of inaccurate metering
  8. 8. Diagnostic and recommendations

Preventative Maintenance (PM)

Preventative maintenance reduces the likelihood of unexpected failures and extends equipment lifespan. It also supports compliance with OSHA standards. Routine maintenance allows early detection of deterioration before it leads to failure.

Standard maintenance scope includes:

  1. 1. Internal cleaning to remove dust and contaminants
  2. 2. Thermal scanning to detect abnormal heating
  3. 3. Torque tightening of power and busbar connections
  4. 4. Insulation resistance testing (phase-to-phase and phase-to-earth)
  5. 5. Earth continuity testing
  6. 6. Mechanical inspection of circuit breakers
  7. 7. Functional trip testing
  8. 8. Load current measurement and phase balance check
  9. 9. Visual inspection of surge protection devices

Protection Relay Calibration & Testing

Protection relays are designed to detect abnormal electrical conditions and disconnect the supply during faults. In accordance to the Electricity & Supply Act 1990, governed by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST), any protective relay and device of an installation shall be checked, tested and calibrated by a competent person once every two (2) years.

Calibration and testing services include:

  1. 1. Overcurrent relay calibration
  2. 2. Earth fault relay testing
  3. 3. Secondary injection testing
  4. 4. Trip timing measurement
  5. 5. Verification of time-current characteristics
  6. 6. Review of relay settings and coordination

All calibration results are recorded and provided in formal reports for compliance purposes.
